About DriveMyBudget

Start with the payment, not the car.

Most car sites make you pick a model first and work out the payment later. We do it the other way around: tell us what you can spend each month, and we show every new car in Ontario that fits.

What the site does

For every trim we track, we take the manufacturer's current finance and lease rates and turn them into a monthly payment. You set a budget, choose finance or lease, and filter by seats, body type, powertrain or brand. Every trim that fits shows up, cheapest first. Click a trim to see the full price breakdown and the payment for every term the manufacturer offers.

What's in the payment

  • The vehicle price: the manufacturer's MSRP for that trim.
  • Freight and delivery: as listed by the manufacturer.
  • Fees the manufacturer lists: for example the OMVIC fee, the air-conditioning excise tax, the tire levy and lien registration (PPSA) on loans. Where a brand's quote leaves out the $22 OMVIC fee, we add it.
  • Dealer admin fee: most manufacturer quotes include a typical dealer admin fee. Toyota, Lexus, Jeep, Ram, Dodge and Chrysler don't. You can enter your dealer's actual fee to replace it.
  • 13% HST: on the full amount for financing, and on each payment for leases, the way Ontario charges it.
  • Federal luxury tax: on vehicles priced over $100,000.
  • Incentives everyone gets: cash the manufacturer applies to every buyer is subtracted. Cash that only applies to financing or leasing is used only for that payment. When a brand makes you choose between cash and a low rate, we show both options separately.

Not included: licence plates and registration, insurance, extended warranties, dealer add-ons, and conditional rebates such as military, loyalty or graduate offers.

How the payment is calculated

Finance uses the standard loan formula: the price after incentives, plus HST, minus your down payment, spread over the term at the manufacturer's rate.

Lease payments cover the drop in value over the term (the price minus the residual the manufacturer publishes) plus the lease interest, with HST on each payment. A few brands don't publish residuals. For those, we use a typical residual and mark the payment "Estimated residual".

We checked these numbers against the manufacturers' own payment calculators, and they match to within a few dollars a month.

Where the rates come from

Every rate, price and fee comes from the manufacturer's own Canadian build-and-price tools for Ontario. Each trim's details say which brand's site the rate came from and the date we checked it. Limited-time offers show their end date.

We currently cover Acura, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Ram, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota and Volkswagen. Some trims are missing where a manufacturer's calculator doesn't return a rate for them. Ford, GM, Nissan and others aren't in yet, and we're adding more brands.

Things to know

  • These are estimates, not offers. The dealer sets the final price, and your rate depends on credit approval.
  • We're not a dealer or a lender, and we don't sell your information. The site has no sign-up, and your filters stay in your browser.
  • Vehicle names, images and trademarks belong to their manufacturers.
